Small home scale
Up to 2 children means relationships, compatibility and the home environment can stay visible in every decision.
Matching before admission
Need, risks, strengths, location, education, staffing and the dynamics of the home are considered before a place is offered.
Education from the start
Education is part of the placement plan from the beginning, with schools, Virtual Schools and professionals involved as needed.
Specialist consultation
Access to specialist psychological input can support formulation, risk consultation, staff guidance and placement review where required.
Therapeutic Care for Complex Needs
The Almond Tree is a specialist therapeutic children's residential home designed specifically for children with complex emotional and behavioural needs. Our approach is rooted in understanding each child's unique story — what has happened to them, not just what they present with.
We support children with:

Mechex works with Unity Psychology Services Limited. The service is led by Nitisha Jiwa, Managing Director, BPS Chartered and HCPC Registered Forensic Psychologist.
The documented service can include specialist assessment when the service commences, formulation and recommendations, professional training, consultation with external care planning and internal provider meetings, psychologically informed information sheets, and direct intervention when a child is ready.
Clinical evaluation and monitoring reports are planned every six months to review how psychology provision is contributing to the wider care plan. Provision is agreed around the child's needs and the care plan.

How the model is practised
We take time to understand every child. Many of the young people we will support have experienced trauma, loss, instability or significant life challenges.
Emotional wellbeing is therefore not an add-on. It is the foundation.
Staff work as therapeutic parents in the everyday: co-regulation, consistent boundaries, positive role models, and plans that look toward education and adulthood.
Innovation — including the AI Comfort Box™ and educational robotics — sits inside this model.
It never sits above it.
How our care model works in practice
Values become routines, records and review.
Every placement begins with assessment and matching. The first 24–72 hours focus on immediate safety, health, routines, relationships, education and the child’s wishes and feelings. From there, key work, staff supervision, professional review and governance keep the plan active.
Before admission
Pre-placement information, compatibility, location risk, staffing and transition planning.
First 24–72 hours
A stabilisation review of safety, medication, health, emotional presentation, routines and contact.
Everyday practice
Therapeutic parenting, co-regulation, consistent boundaries, key work and positive activities.
Education and health
Attendance, education plans, health appointments and wellbeing are reviewed with professionals.
Staff support
Supervision, reflective practice, training and specialist consultation support safe decision-making.
Quality governance
Regulation 44 independent visits and Regulation 45 quality-of-care reviews once operating within registration.
What we will measure from day one
Placement stability, school engagement, incidents and restraint, missing episodes, health appointments, family/contact goals, the child’s voice and independence skills. These are measures against each child’s starting point, not claims of results before evidence exists.
